Here is a place for people who read books to recommend them. I read books, but not many that I can really recommend. I am currently reading "Extending and Embedding Perl" by Tim Jenness and Simon Cozens, and I do find it riveting, but I will hold off on a recommendation until I am at least halfway done reading it. :-)

Well, I don't read much anymore, but a few years ago, when I read everyday, I couldn't put down the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. I definetly recommend this series

Though I have not yet read them (I plan to read them next) I have heard from many people that the Wheel of Time series is great. I'll check it out before I state my own opinion though

I have read the first eight of the Wheel of Time (though it was a bit of time ago that I read them). And the first four or five are fantastic... But then you start getting so many characters and then so little happens to each person in a book cause they each get like 2 chapters per book. Dang. Robert Jordan should've kept it to fewer main chars and fewer books in general. But thats just one girlie's opinion.

Oh, what was that (i think 9 book..?) series by Timothy LaHaye and that other guy...something like 'end of the world'...about armageddon...that Romanian Nicolae guy was the antichrist...bah! what was it!! *smack

Probably my favorite book: Verner Vinge: A Fire Upon the Deep Don't read the reviews of the book, they don't do justice to the book (actually, the reviews make it seem pretty flaky). Vinge creates a universe that is thought provoking. -- Star Zero |

Read the 6 (or some odd number) of original Dune novels a long time ago. I remember liking them, but I do remember the first ones being better than the later ones.
I really enjoyed the House (Corrino|Harkonnen|Atreides) series, all the way through. I enjoyed the Machine Wars, Butlerian Jihad, Battle of Corrin series, but the last book (Battle of Corrin) seemed to have ended too quickly. That may be because there were a few too many story lines to wrap up, and the authors did it with too few pages. *shurg* |

LOL! Um, no. THat would be a movie recommendation, but I do recommend both of the SciFi channels mini-series on Dune:
Dune Children of Dune Both very nicely done. They must do more!!!

It is a great series, though it is over now sadly.
 But anyways, I don't want to be like Shadow, so to bring this back on topic, I recommend the Game of Thrones series. The are by George R.R. Martin. They are books that are sometimes brutal but incredibly well written. They are very much more realistic that some of the "candy" books I've read.
